Derbyshire

The Derbyshire flag was the winning entry in a 2006 competition organised by the BBC . Designed by Martin Enright the blue in the flag is held to be one of the traditional colours of the county representing its rivers and reservoirs; the cross marks the fact that Derbyshire is at the centre of the country and it is green because Derbyshire is “a lush county with outstanding countryside”.  At the centre of the cross is a gold Tudor rose, which has been Derbyshire’s royally awarded county badge for over 500 years, used in many county symbols and coats of arms over that time. Its gold colour mimics the logo of the county cricket club and symbolises quality. It also avoids confusion with Lancashire and Yorkshire.
