Westmorland

Westmorland’s flag is derived from the arms of the now defunct county council. It was promoted as a flag for the county by the Westmorland Association http://www.westmorland-association.org.uk. Having secured the support of a number of other county wide organisations, the association successful registered the flag with the FI in September 2011. The two red bars are from the arms of the de Lancaster family, Barons of Kendal. The stylised and distinctive apple tree is from the thirteenth-century seal of the Borough of Appleby.
