Ross-shire

Rossprop

Whilst there is a sound traditional design which could be adapted for use as a county flag (see the Ross-shire item uner the “Proposed flags from traditional county emblems” section here ) Brady Ells has also designed an alternative flag which depicts a stylised wolf head in the traditional red and white colours of the locality. This illustration reflects the shape of the county which, as he says, does look remarkably like a wolf’s head!

  • There is no “change” proposed as there is nothing existing to change. Ross-shire currently has no flag so this is one proposed design for it. Another, referred and linked to in the above description, is a coat of arms used by local nobility which has been subsequently incorporated into the arms used by the former local council, featuring three white rampant lions against a red field. Use of this specific design would not be possible because it is owned by someone but as with the council arms, it might be adapted for a potential county flag. This exact process has just been applied in neighbouring Sutherland which has adopted a flag that features the red and gold colour scheme and three mullets (stars) of the Earldom of Sutherland.
