Postal Addressing Enquiries

We receive many enquiries from people like you who are either exasperated at the inability of a web form to grasp where they are from, or the general confusion of counties in addresses. Unfortunately postal addressing problems are commonplace – the most effective solution is for you, the end user, to contact the website or organisation directly and express your discontent.

Using your historic county when writing to others or sharing your own address is also good practice.

Before you contact us:

  • You may wish read the Appendix of the Historic Counties Postal Directory, which explains the various ways one might incorporate a county into their address, especially if the post town is in another county.
  • Please note that we do not have the resources to contact specific websites or postal address system providers when you discover difficulty in using their website or system.
