Additionally the De Lacy arms were unequivocally acknowledged as being yellow with a rather unusual, distinctly purple lion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" noframe aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/01\/De-Lacy.jpg\" alt=\"De Lacy\" width=\"206\" height=\"233\" \/><\/p>\n<p>More likely is that the lion recalls the arms, a black lion rampant on a white field,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" noframe aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/01\/Powys-Fadog.jpg\" alt=\"Powys Fadog\" width=\"219\" height=\"245\" \/><\/p>\n<p>assigned to the mediaeval Welsh kingdom of Powys Fadog which included swathes of modern day Denbighshire. The same\u00a0lion appeared on the badge of the former Denbighshire Constabulary<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe alignnone wp-image-2725 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary-227x300.png\" alt=\"Denbighshire Constabulary\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary-227x300.png 227w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary-159x210.png 159w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary-121x160.png 121w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary-100x132.png 100w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-Constabulary.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Administrative reforem abolished the Denbighshire county council in 1974\u00a0but the sucessor Clywd administration retained the black lion in its own coat of arms<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2726 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996-211x300.png\" alt=\"Clwyd County Council 1974-1996\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996-211x300.png 211w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996-148x210.png 148w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996-112x160.png 112w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996-100x142.png 100w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-County-Council-1974-1996.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Whilst this body was itself abolished in 1996 two local groups established in the time of its existence also use the black lion in their insignia; Clwyd- Denbigh Federation of Womans&#8217; Institutes<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2728 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1.jpg\" alt=\"Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge[1]\" width=\"206\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1.jpg 206w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1-160x160.jpg 160w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Clwyd-Denbigh-Federation-Chairman-substitute-image-of-the-federation-badge1-100x100.jpg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and Girlguiding Clwyd<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2727 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd-300x111.png\" alt=\"Girlguiding Clwyd\" width=\"300\" height=\"111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd-300x111.png 300w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd-355x132.png 355w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd-100x37.png 100w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Girlguiding-Clwyd.png 374w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The design was incorporated into the\u00a0badge of the &#8220;Denbighshire and Montgomeryshire Joint Fire Service&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.uniquecollections.co.uk\/images\/items25179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"331\" height=\"308\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Whilst in this illustration the upper half of the lion appears to be green, the context makes it clear that this was intended to be the black lion on white of Powys Fadog, to represent Denbighshire,\u00a0whilst the lower half being a red lion\u00a0on gold represents Montgomeryshire.<\/p>\n<p>In 1996 a newly constituted Denbighshire County Council reeceived new arms which nonetheless retained the original black lion rampant of Powys Fadog\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996-.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" noframe aligncenter wp-image-2730\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--298x300.png\" alt=\"Denbighshire County Council 1996-\" width=\"336\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--298x300.png 298w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--208x210.png 208w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--159x160.png 159w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--355x358.png 355w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996--100x101.png 100w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Denbighshire-County-Council-1996-.png 414w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Accordingly the armorial banner based on this design, which has been a persistent\u00a0and widely used county emblem, has been suggested as a\u00a0likely flag for the county. However there is also another design associated with this entity.
