The design derives from the\u00a0seventeenth century work, &#8220;The Battle of Agincourt&#8221; by the poet Michael Drayton,\u00a0where he\u00a0describes a banner borne by soldiers from Denbighshire\u00a0\u201cThose of&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;Denbigh, a Neptune with his three-fork\u2019d Mace:\u201d which refers\u00a0of course to a trident, as seen on this flag. The quartered yellow and white background comes from the\u00a0arms awarded to Denbighshire County Council in 1996<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe alignnone wp-image-1427 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74.jpg\" alt=\"Den CC 74\" width=\"292\" height=\"294\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74.jpg 292w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74-208x210.jpg 208w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/01\/Den-CC-74-158x160.jpg 158w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 292px) 100vw, 292px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>which\u00a0placed\u00a0the supposed black lion of Powys Fadog over\u00a0a quartered yellow and white field, apparently meant to recall the cross used by the local ancient prince, Edwin of Tegeingl \u2013 also featured in symbols used by neighbouring Flintshire. The quarters of the field are white in the first and third quarters and yellow in second and third.
