The three sections of the shield were\u00a0defined by two indented vertical strips, green at left and black at right. This arrangement is repeated in the proposed flag which features green and black panels at left and right respectively.\u00a0At the centre of the arms were three blue boar heads taken from the arms of the local Abercrombie family<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1507 aligncenter\" title=\"noframe\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/Abercrombie.jpg\" alt=\"Abercrombie\" width=\"148\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\">and appearing in an early\u00a0version of the Banff town seal, seemingly because at one time the thickly wooded area was\u00a0a home to these beasts. The old seal was described as oval in shape with a boar passant,\u00a0while no actual illustration of this appears to exist\u00a0something like the following\u00a0is envisioned<\/p>\n<p align=\"LEFT\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1565 aligncenter\" title=\"noframe\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/Banff-228x300.jpg\" alt=\"Banff\" width=\"184\" height=\"247\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A blue boar&#8217;s head consequently appears in the central white panel on the flag. Additionally the name Banff has porcine connotations,\u00a0meaning piglet\u00a0in Gaelic ( &#8220;banbh&#8221; ) it is\u00a0applied, rather poetically, as a nickname to the local River Deveron which is\u00a0seen as &#8220;rooting its way to the coast&#8221;!
