The red lion rampant on gold was the badge of the traditional province of Fife<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/province-of-Fife.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1793\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/province-of-Fife.jpg\" alt=\"province of Fife\" width=\"179\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/province-of-Fife.jpg 179w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/province-of-Fife-172x210.jpg 172w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/province-of-Fife-131x160.jpg 131w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>and appears in the council civic arms as a shield on the arm of an armoured knight<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1794\" style=\"width: 193px;height: 238px\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms-243x300.jpg\" alt=\"Fife CC Arms\" width=\"243\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms-243x300.jpg 243w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms-170x210.jpg 170w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms-129x160.jpg 129w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-CC-Arms.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 243px) 100vw, 243px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The red lion\u00a0also represents the county\u2019s historical links with the monarchy and subsequently the county\u2019s title as &#8216;the Kingdom of Fife&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3268 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/Fife-1.gif\" alt=\"Fife\" width=\"320\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another proposal from \u00a0James Wayne Moffatt and Terry Atkinson reworks the same colours and themes in a different arrangement, with the sea to the east in light blue\u00a0and the golden rich land to the west.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3309 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/02\/ClarkFife.gif\" alt=\"clarkfife\" width=\"320\" height=\"195\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Adam Clark&#8217;s design again includes\u00a0the red Lion rampart as\u00a0an obvious nod to Fife&#8217;s royal connections, on\u00a0its yellow or gold shield. This in turn is placed over a bi-colour field or background of black and gold, the latter being a darker shade than the shield to provide the necessary contrast. The upper\u00a0stripe recalls the quote from King James VI about the beaches being fringed with gold. The lower black stripe symbolises the county&#8217;s coal industry, a\u00a0significant feature of Fife&#8217;s local heritage, uniquely represented in this design.
