The design features two avowedly Welsh symbols, a leek and a harp &#8211; the latter being apt as the county is\u00a0an important centre\u00a0of Welsh musical traditions and poetry.<\/p>\n<p>Whilst clearly not having a specific nor long standing\u00a0local provenance,\u00a0being rather, a combination of generic Welsh emblems, this civic insignia was also used to represent the county in a general way as demonstrated by this Carmarthenshire County Bowling Association badge,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2112 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Carmarthenshire-County-Bowling-Association.1.png\" alt=\"Carmarthenshire County Bowling Association.\" width=\"200\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Carmarthenshire-County-Bowling-Association.1.png 200w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Carmarthenshire-County-Bowling-Association.1-175x210.png 175w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Carmarthenshire-County-Bowling-Association.1-133x160.png 133w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 1935 the local council received a formal award of arms<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2115\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthenshire-County-Council.jpg\" alt=\"Camarthenshire County Council\" width=\"282\" height=\"252\" \/><\/p>\n<p>which combine two Welsh dragons with\u00a0two gold lions on a quarted red and gold, counter charged field, the quarters being divided by an an\u00a0indented line. The lion and indentation are\u00a0from the arms of Rhys ap Tewdwr Mawr, King of Deheubarth, a kingdom occupying the territory of modern day Carmarthenshire,\u00a0in the eleventh century<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2116\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Rhys-p-Tedwr-Mawr.jpg\" alt=\"Rhys p Tedwr Mawr\" width=\"144\" height=\"155\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and it has been suggested that an armorial banner formed from these\u00a0arms\u00a0would be an appropriate flag for the modern county which occupies the territory of the ancient kingdom<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe alignnone wp-image-2562 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Deheubarth.gif\" alt=\"Deheubarth\" width=\"320\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The erstwhile administration of Dyfed included the\u00a0Deheubarth, arms to signify the inclusion of Carmarthenshire as part of its territorial remit<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe wp-image-2590 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-300x193.png\" alt=\"Dyffed Deheubarth\" width=\"532\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-325x210.png 325w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-247x160.png 247w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-355x229.png 355w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Dyffed-Deheubarth-100x64.png 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>so there is certainly a precedent for use of this design to represent the county, indeed the flag is flown in the county today, as seen here in flight over Carmarthen Castle<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthen-Castle.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"noframe aligncenter wp-image-2701 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthen-Castle.jpeg\" alt=\"Camarthen Castle\" width=\"300\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthen-Castle.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthen-Castle-243x160.jpeg 243w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2014\/03\/Camarthen-Castle-100x65.jpeg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAn alternative design has been created by Philip Tibbetts,\u00a0taking the\u00a0shield from the later\u00a0council arms\u00a0arms as inspiration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" noframe alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2014\/03\/PT-Camarthenshire.gif\" alt=\"PT Camarthenshire\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This design\u00a0retains the same colours and indented divisions of the civic design. The county&#8217;s soubriquet of &#8220;the garden of Wales&#8221; is recalled in the inclusion in each quarter of water lillies, all suitably countercharged in red and gold.
