The\u00a0design is a banner of the arms ascribed by later mediaeval heralds, to the earlier, locally celebrated ruler, Hwfa ap Cynddelw. The earliest reference to the arms seems to be in the work of the bard Lewis Glyn Cothi from the period of 1447 to 1486 although there is no evident explanation for the choice of colours or charges used. A late C15th century stained glass window with the arms refering to Hwfa are apparently depicted in the east window of Llangadwaladr church on the island.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2012\/01\/anglesey-flag-holyhead-mountain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-965\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2012\/01\/anglesey-flag-holyhead-mountain-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2012\/01\/anglesey-flag-holyhead-mountain-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2012\/01\/anglesey-flag-holyhead-mountain-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/abcounties.com\/flags\/files\/2012\/01\/anglesey-flag-holyhead-mountain.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The\u00a0flag displayed at the\u00a0summit of Anglesey, Holyhead Mountain.<\/p>\n<p>According to the heraldic historian Scott-Giles, Anglesey County Council used the Hwfa arms informally<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  aligncenter\" style=\"width: 179px;height: 205px\" alt=\"Anglesey CC arms1\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2012\/01\/Anglesey-CC-arms1.jpg\" width=\"243\" height=\"295\" \/><\/p>\n<p>before they were incorporated into the design granted to them officially<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"Anglesey CC arms2\" src=\"http:\/\/flags.abcounties.com\/files\/2012\/01\/Anglesey-CC-arms2.jpg\" width=\"290\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>.
