Somerset Day is celebrated each year on 11th May. It marks Alfred the Great’s call to arms and the gathering of ‘all the people of Somerset’ to march against the invading Viking army. Devised, planned and promoted by our friends at Passion for Somerset, over the last ten years it has grown to rival Yorkshire Day and Lancashire Day as one of the biggest county day celebrations in the country. This year was no exception, with the celebrations taking place over the whole weekend of 10-11th May. The support of local people, businesses and organisations help make this the huge community event it has become. BBC Somerset has also been very supportive.
