The flags in this group are novel creations, in many cases they feature symbols or themes already found in the county, e.g. the Stafford Knot, but the flag as a whole is a modern contrivance – no such pattern has previously existed in this form and the proposal cannot therefore be registered as a “traditional” design, albeit that a charge appearing on the flag may be traditionally used in a given location. Such designs would be prime contenders for any competition established to determine a county flag. The list here features some of the more prominent examples of proposed county flags that have featured in discussions by enthusiasts.
